"To provide a glimpse of the fast growing advisor market, Fortune is for the first time publishing three lists of the nation’s top investment advisors. Created by Registered Rep. magazine, the top-50 lists rank advisors in the U.S. by the amount of assets they have under management. To be considered for these Registered Rep. rankings, advisors must have at least 50% of their business with individual investors. Each list provides a snapshot of the advisor marketplace from a different vantage point. One list looks at those advisors working for large “wirehouse” brokerage firms. The second looks at top-performing advisors who work as independent broker/dealer reps. The third ranks Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs), who as fiduciaries have greater responsibility for the advice and management that they provide their clients.
