Athena’s Kate Huntington Appears in Real Assets article on Impact Investing
Athena Capital Advisors’ Managing Director Kate Huntington appeared in the November issue of Real Assets magazine, providing commentary on the evolution of impact investing beyond traditional equities.
The article, “Investing to Make a Difference,” highlighted that worldwide investors have committed over $100 billion to impact strategies and in the real assets category, interest is growing in areas such as sustainable agriculture and timberland as well as green real estate and infrastructure.
Huntington told the reporter, Suzanne Franks, that impact funds generally target the same returns as their non-impact counterparts. “It depends on the strategy… timber and farmland funds target the same returns as their non-impact peers, while commercial real estate impact funds primarily use a value-added strategy to generate returns in the low-to-mid teens,” Huntington described.
Athena is a pioneer in the field of values-based and impact investing, which have been a focus at the firm for the past 10 years. The due diligence of impact and other values- based investments is fully integrated into the core research process, with the same team evaluating impact and non-impact investments.
