Banker & Tradesman Profiles Athena's William McCalpin

On January 1, Banker & Tradesman published a Q&A with Athena Capital Advisors’ William McCalpin highlighting his new role as Managing Partner for the firm’s impact investing practice.

The article, “Meeting Impact With Investment,” noted that one of McCalpin’s goals is to draw from the firm’s experience over the past ten-plus years to contribute a thoughtful perspective to broader discussion of impact investing.

“We need to have more conversations about how to do this well, and I think the practitioner’s perspective is important in this conversation,” he told reporter Laura Alix. “The advocate’s perspective is there, but the people who are the advocates are generally not the people who are getting their hands dirty on a day-to-day basis, building and managing portfolios.”

McCalpin also outlined several potential opportunities for both Athena and investors interested in impact strategies, citing donor-advised funds as one example. The full article is available on the Banker & Tradesman website here.

William McCalpin joined Athena Capital Advisors as Managing Partner, Impact Investments, in November 2016. Previously, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Imprint Capital Advisors, which was acquired by Goldman Sachs Asset Management in 2015.

Athena is a registered investment adviser that assists private and institutional clients with social investments across all asset classes and implementation strategies, including positive/negative screening, ESG integration, impact investing, and shareholder engagement.
