ThinkAdvisor Explores Gender Lens Investing with Athena Capital’s Jeff Finkelman
Athena Capital Advisors’ Jeff Finkelman, Research Associate, Impact Investments, discussed in a recent ThinkAdvisor article how a gender lens investing strategy can fit into a retirement portfolio for female clients looking to accomplish a social purpose while providing strong financial returns.
In the article “Is Gender Lens Investing a Good Opportunity for Female Clients?,” published on November 13, 2017, reporter Myra Thomas explored a growing demand among women for an investment approach with a social impact, specifically one that benefits other women. The article also addressed common misconceptions around impact and gender lens investing, such as an expectation of inferior returns.
“You can certainly make money with gender lens investing,” Finkelman said, but emphasized the importance of advisor due diligence and research in pursuing a gender inclusive investment approach. He added, “The advisor’s expertise is essential,” noting that advisors pursuing a gender lens investment strategy may wish to find female company leaders who can generate risk-adjusted returns just like their peers.
